Smiles
Perhaps the most famous of all celebrity
smiles belongs to the old Mona Lisa
of Da’ Vinci. Lately, however, it’s
becoming more and more popular to get
concerned about your own smile. Stars
of public television as well as those
of Hollywood have gone on to project
a gigantic image of happiness.
You
watch TV and you’re left with a picture
of the perfect smile. The many dental
services available today make the possibility
of attaining the perfect smile more
of a reality than ever before.
Among
those whose smiles today are having
such a great effect in the United States
and in the world are Brittney Spears,
Catherine Zeta Jones, Venus Williams,
Kylie Minogue, Tom Cruise, Jennifer
Aniston, Scott Hoch, Jessica Simpson,
Kim Zymeskal and Martina Hingis. These
are the smiles that assure Australia
its happiness in hip flashing highlife
popular cultural icons. These are the
faces that you are smiling with and
at. You have seen an effective impact
of celebrity smiles on how you think
about dental treatment.
It
is easy for one to determine if they
need dental treatment. A kid, for example,
who’s afraid to smile at a person facing
them is probably in need of dental treatment.
Those with crooked or twisted teeth,
including top jutting teeth often termed
“buck” are often indicative of the need
for dental treatment. Those with spaced
out teeth or inconsistent gaps are also
in a position to consider the value
and potential of their smile.
Other
things that you may notice that would
indicate the possibility of dental treatment
are the cases in which you need to shift
your jaw around in order to attain a
comfortable bite; those in which your
top teeth cover more than one third
of your bottom teeth; those in which
your top teeth are growing in behind
your front bottom teeth; and those cases
in which the front center part of your
top and bottom teeth are not aligned.
There
is a strong psychological element to
health and well-being, and while on
one hand the fact that oral health has
been steadily improving over the years
still remains, young adults are now
more likely to believe that they have
unhealthy teeth and gums, because they
are comparing themselves with the very
high standards, which are set in the
celebrity world. Celebrities who spend
thousands of dollars remodeling their
mouths in search of ‘a picture-perfect
smile’ are making image-conscious young
people uneasy about their teeth.
Many
of us are willing to admit that we have
admired the unforgettable smile of Michael
Douglas or Julia Roberts. In the early
1980's a great number of Hollywood celebrities
were among the first to use “ Feldspathic”
porcelain veneers in order for their
picture perfect smiles to be born. The
porcelain used is very strong and stain
resistant. It has the same translucent
polychromatic shade quality as natural
tooth enamel and can give patients a
healthy younger-looking smile, which
is ultimately the objective of cosmetics
in general: self-preservation. When
you use it to restore or straighten
the appearance of one or two of your
teeth, you can match porcelain veneers
to your teeth. You can whiten any of
your teeth, and you can do it even with
the most severe of stains, including
discoloration caused by tetracycline.
It
is clear that celebrities are raising
the bar today of our population in what
a beautiful smile should look like.
The positive effect is that many Australians
today are more diligent about their
dental care than ever before.
