Is
fluoride in your bottled water and flowing
from your tap?
Water fluoridation provides both topical
and systemic benefits for preventing
tooth decay. Community water fluoridation
is an extremely effective and inexpensive
means of obtaining the fluoride necessary
for optimal prevention of tooth decay.
If you are unsure about the fluoride
level in your community's water, ask
your dentist and/or contact your local
or state health department or water
supplier.
Those
who regularly drink bottled water, well
water or unfluoridated tap water may
be missing the benefits of fluoride.
While some bottled water naturally contains
optimal levels of fluoride, the majority
of bottled waters do not. Some companies
produce bottled water with added fluoride.
Check the bottle water label or contact
the distributor for information
For over five decades, the American
and Australian Dental Association has
continuously endorsed the fluoridation
of community water supplies and the
use of fluoride-containing products
as safe and effective measures for preventing
tooth decay.
The
majority of bottled waters on the market
do not contain optimal levels (0.7-1.2
ppm) of fluoride. And, some types of
home water treatment systems can reduce
the fluoride levels in water supplies
potentially decreasing the decay-preventive
effects of optimally fluoridated water.
Can
the consistent use of bottled water
result in individuals missing the benefits
of optimally fluoridated water?
Yes.

Can
home water treatment systems (e.g.,
